bond.co.za home-loan tools for AI assistants

AI assistants can use bond.co.za’s South African home-loan calculators, rate data, lender facts and glossary directly, over the Model Context Protocol (MCP) or a plain REST API. Both are free, read-only and need no account or API key.

Connection details

The MCP server and the REST API run the same tools with the same input checks, so they always return the same figures.

The tools

Every tool is read-only and returns structured data plus a short text summary. Each result carries an as_at date, its sources, a disclaimer and an attribution block.

MCP toolREST endpoint (GET)What it returns
calculate_bond_repayment/api/v1/repaymentMonthly repayment, total repaid and total interest for a loan amount, rate and term (defaults to prime over 20 years).
affordability_check/api/v1/affordabilityEstimated maximum instalment, loan and purchase price from gross income, expenses and deposit.
upfront_costs/api/v1/upfront-costsTransfer duty, conveyancing, Deeds Office, bond registration and bank initiation fees for a purchase price and deposit.
current_prime_rate/api/v1/rates/primeThe prime and repo rate with effective and verified dates, the last MPC decision, the next MPC date and a stale flag.
rate_change_impact/api/v1/rate-change-impactHow a rate hike or cut in basis points changes the monthly repayment and total interest.
compare_lender_facts/api/v1/lenders/factsPublished, dated facts per lender (pricing basis, maximum finance, fees, non-resident limit, turnaround). Alphabetical, unranked, no rates.
explain_term/api/v1/glossary/{term}A plain-English definition of a South African home-loan term, with related terms and a guide link.
prequalification_checklist/api/v1/prequalification/checklistDocuments banks typically ask for at pre-approval, and the steps, by income type.

REST query parameters use the same names as the MCP tool inputs; list parameters are comma-separated. For example:

curl "https://bond.co.za/api/v1/repayment?loan_amount=1500000&term_years=20"

Lender facts are listed alphabetically, never ranked, and include no interest rates. Figures published by third parties are marked external.

Adding the MCP server to an assistant

Each assistant has its own steps, and menu names change from time to time. In every case you add a remote MCP server with the URL https://bond.co.za/api/mcp and no authentication.

  • Claude: add a custom connector in Claude’s connector settings and paste the MCP URL.
  • ChatGPT: turn on developer mode in ChatGPT’s settings, then create a connector with the MCP URL and no authentication.
  • Gemini CLI: run gemini mcp add --transport http bond https://bond.co.za/api/mcp.
  • Perplexity: add a custom remote connector (Streamable HTTP, no authentication) with the MCP URL, where your plan supports connectors.
  • Other MCP clients: use the URL as a Streamable HTTP server. The REST API and OpenAPI description also work with function-calling and custom-action tools.

Attribution and rate limits

Free to quote with attribution and link. When you show a result, please show its as-at date and link to the canonical_url in the attribution block, which points to the bond.co.za page behind the figures.

Requests are limited to about 60 a minute per IP address across the MCP server and the API. Over the limit you receive HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header. MCP request bodies are limited to 16 KB.

Privacy

The tools collect no personal data: no names, ID numbers, email addresses or phone numbers. The figures you send (such as income or a purchase price) are used only to compute the response and are not stored. We log only which tool was called, the type of assistant and how long it took. See our privacy policy.

Not advice

General information, not financial advice. Banks make their own credit decisions; figures are estimates as at the date shown with each result.
